This is the first custom figure I have done besides Star Wars characters. I
was watching "I love the 70's" a couple weeks ago a LOTL was on there. I forgot how much I loved that show as a kid. With their creepy shuffle and
hissing sound, they were by far my favorite.
I make all my figures with the same tools and techniques professional toy
sculptors do. I sculpt the original in clay, then make a mold of that. When
that mold is cured I remove the clay and fill the void with wax. I then
refine the sculpt and add detail to get the final figure I want. I then add
articulation ( The figure can move at the arms and the head) And make the
final molds of each separate piece. I then pressure cast(60psi) each piece
in color correct plastic. I assemble the figure and paint it for a
production look. The painted figure in the picture you saw was all had
painted ( I was out of green plastic).
As a variant I will be making Enik. I will re-sculpt his arms to give
him articulated fingers. I will also give him a little Disco vest with
groovy necklace. He will be cast in a pale yellow colored plastic.
